Steel prices rise as safeguard duty, rising exports push rates up
The latest round of price hike happened on Friday with some steel mills increasing hot rolled coil (HRC) prices by ₹500-750 a tonne, according to price reporting and market intelligence firm BigMint. HRC is a benchmark for flat steel. “This is the second price hike this mo­nth, other mills are also expected to follow suit,” Hemant Dewangan, assistant general manager, steel-operations, at BigMint said.

GAIL’s Srikakulam–Angul gas pipeline connects India’s energy heartland with eastern coast
New Delhi: State-run GAIL’s Srikakulam–Angul pipeline (SAPL) for transporting natural gas is an exercise to re-engineer India’s energy map, by connecting the eastern and western supply sources, while strengthening the National Gas Grid (NGG) with new operational flexibility. The SAPL is part of GAIL’s efforts to strengthen the National Gas Grid. Besides SAPL, the other critical pipeline projects include the Mumbai–Nagpur–Jharsuguda Pipeline (MNJPL) and the Gurdaspur–Jammu Pipeline (GJPL).
EIL achieves longest horizontal drilling across Brahmaputra river
New Delhi: State-run Engineers India (EIL) on Saturday said that it has achieved the most remarkable milestone with the pullback of the Brahmaputra HDD crossing of 4,058 meters—the longest ever Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) crossing in the world of 26 inch pipeline diameter. This historic accomplishment surpasses EIL’s own earlier record of 4,027 meters at the Ganga River, achieved under the same project, reaffirming EIL’s engineering excellence, innovation and execution capability in the most challenging terrains, the company said.

As the shares of Bharat Coking Coal will be listed on the exchanges today, the interest has shifted from the huge oversubscription to the listing gains on the first day. Few issues received such attention from both retail and institutional investors. Despite the small size of the issue, `1,000 crore or so, the amount bid for was more than INR1,00,000 crore. The qualified institutions’ portion was subscribed by more than 300 times. The retail one received money that was nearly 50 times more than its share. Throughout the pre-IPO, and IPO periods, the grey market, which is indicative of a possible listing price, gave it a huge thumbs up, with a premium of 50-60 per cent. At last count, the share was expected to list INR13 over its INR23 upper offer price.
